La Ley N° 21.100, que prohíbe la entrega de bolsas plásticas de comercio en todo el territorio nacional, entró en vigencia el 3 de agosto de 2018. Esta Ley no hace excepciones por tamaño de empresa por lo cual la prohibición afecta a todo tipo de establecimiento comercial. La única excepción es que respecto de las micro, pequeñas y medianas empresas (Pymes) la prohibición entrará a regir a los 2 años desde la publicación de la ley versus los 6 meses de plazo de gracia que se estableció para las grandes empresas. El período de transición de 2 años finaliza el 2 de agosto de 2020, y hasta ese día, las Pymes pueden entregar sólo 2 bolsas plásticas a consumidores por cada compra que realicen. A contar del 3 de agosto de 2020, las Pymes ya no podrán entregar bolsas plásticas. La única excepción dice relación con que se permitirá la entrega de bolsas plásticas en los casos en que éstas vayan en contacto directo con un alimento que no cuente con un envase (Por ej., pan, frutas o verduras).
